Hi everyone! I am currently in McKinney, Texas! Guess what? I am also serving in English. So remember all those awesome families that Hna. Finnell and I found? I can teach them! But only if I was back in Grand Prairie, Texas. We have two “smelly” elders in Grand Prairie, Texas! But I talked to them and they are pretty cool and chill back. Well, also very hardworking elders. I guess I wouldn’t trust any other set of elders to take over that area.
I have a new companion, her name is Sister Wald, and she is an English sister missionary. She has been in McKinney Texas for about 7 months! She is still in her first area! And here I come in being like everywhere!!!! So i'm kind of excited to work with the American people who speak English. I think they are sending me English because I have to learn how to be nice. Ha-ha. Yesterday, Sister Wald and I went to visits this less active member. And from what my understand is, is that she was baptized when she was 8 because her parents wanted her too. Now, she doesn’t have a firm belief that Joseph Smith is a prophet, and she doesn’t know if the Book of Mormon is true. So I just asked her, do you believe Joseph Smith was called to be a prophet? Or do you believe that the Book of Mormon is true? And her response was I don’t know to both of the questions. Afterwards Sister Wald was like, see you can’t be that bold. And I was like, I was being nice.
English work and Hispanic work are SO DIFFERENT! Like for Hispanic you just have to be straight right to the point, while in English work, you have to have “fluff”. Or sugar Coat the truth. And I guess I have to sugar coat the true. I didn’t sugar coat the truth in Hispanic work because I didn’t have the vocabulary. Hahaha. But know since I’m a Native Speaker in English…i’m going to have a fun time!
Another person that we taught, her name is Melinda and her “friend” (we aren’t too sure about their relationship status) George. We taught them about the Restoration though Jesus Christ and she had a lot of doubts. I mean she doesn’t know where to even look. We just ensured her that she can’t take our word for it. But she has to ask God because he is the only person that will answer her questions. But I can totally see her getting baptized. I know that she will! She just needs a lot of faith. We shared a scripture in Alma 34 that all she needs is a particle of faith. And honestly, that’s what we only need, “A particle of faith”.
Sister Wald and I were talking to members about how we get people to church and I was telling her about my experience about getting Jo to church every Sunday. And how we stood outside of his house for an hour, so that we could get him to church, plus driving by peoples homes to get them to church! And how the Spanish sister would do anything until our investigators got out of their house and drove themselves to church. For example, Ricardo, before I got to Grand Prairie, the sister would drive to his house and made sure that Ricardo would follow them to church. And apparently that isn’t very common in the English World. Sister Wald said that their investigators would never open their doors again, if we did that. I mean if we really want people to go to church, sometimes we have to do the extreme!
Well everyone! I love you! And I miss you!!!
Quote of the Week
I received a letter from Kelly! You know who you are! And this is what she said about Babe, Her husband. They went to the Temple in and Babe started to tell everyone about his Mormon wife and how he goes out on Friday night.
And Kelly said “they had to leave because Babe doesn’t know the word ‘reverent.’"
