HI everyone! I am leaving my first area!! I’m so sad that I am leaving because there is still much work to be done. I have no idea where I am going too, but it should be interesting to see where I am going. First off, this week, my companion and I went to a dinner and the family didn’t know that they signed up. And this is a part member family, the father (Hermano Vaszques) is a member and his wife isn’t. So Hna Vazques said that she didn’t write her number on our food calendar, but she did. Anyways, we weren’t over and her husband was home (usually he works until like 10 pm) and we had dinner. They said that they were moving back to Columbia because she couldn’t find a job and she was lonely. (Her family is from Columba). Then we just started talking and Hno Vaszes said that oh did you know your wife isn’t a member and we were like oh we didn’t know. (But we really did). And she was like well, maybe I should start taking the lessons and she would feed us lunch. And we were like ok! So we went for lunch the next day and we taught her and she knew everything. The reason is because she has been coming to church for the past 8 years. Then at the end of the lesson she was like so when can I get baptized? And my companion and I just looked at each other in shock. We were like of course! So we set a baptismal date for Nov. 7. I’m just sad that I’m not going to be teaching her anymore, but at least she is getting baptized. And she wants to keep it a secret because the Spanish branch doesn’t know she isn’t a member, and she doesn’t want everyone to come up to her and say, oh we didn’t know you were a member and congratulations. She doesn’t want that kind of attention.
This past Wednesday we were contacting a medial referral (a person who sees a TV commercial and wants either a DVD or Book or Mormon). Her name is Sadie, and she has some knowledge about the gospel and Jesus Christ teachings. SO we taught her the first lesson, and she was excited for us to come back. She seems like she wants to know more about our Church. She really enjoyed the part that we have a prophet today, like Moses, Abraham, etc. and how that our Heavenly Father loves us so much that he doesn’t want us to live in spiritual darkness.
On Friday we had the Assistance to the Presidents come out with my companion and I, to our lessons. (They are the Elders that help out our mission president and probably are the best missionaries in the mission.) We went and taught the Familia Esclante and just gave them a brief over view about faith, repentances, baptism, the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the End. Then we said that we would fast for them so that Hna Eslcante can get a divorce and get married to Hno Esclante. So that’s what my companion and I are doing, with the Esclante and the Assistance to the President.
After the Familia Esclanates we visited Jouse Flores, and tried to step up a baptismal date with him. However, Hermano Flores said that he doesn’t want to baptize Jouse without his daughter Alize. Hno Flores and Hna Flores are separated and Alize is living with Hna Flores. SO we need to find Alize and finish her the lessons so that she can get baptized. Jouse really has a desire to be baptized and is ready but we baptized families, not individuals. It means more when a family is baptized then when a member at a time is baptized.
Finally, Teresa Andres. She is my companion favorite investigator. She has a date for November 14 but she might not get baptized on that date because she hasn’t been coming to church. What gets me, is that she’s been taught before but she doesn’t remember what we taught her. She confused Joseph Smith with John Smith. It was kinda embarrassing that she doesn’t know but at the same time she expressed how much she wants to be baptized, like her parents. I think that we just need to have patience with her. She will get it, and she knows that this is the right step for to become closer to our Heavenly Father. Plus, to live with her family forever!

Swine Flu, Baptism, Service & Wood Chopping 101
Hi All Ya’ll!!
Greetings from Texas once again. This might be my last full week in this area because transfers are next week. SO I’ll get a phone call this Sat night, and I’ll let you know next Monday if I am leaving this great area.
Well, this week has been very slow because I believe that my companion got the swine flu. So we stayed in for about 2 days. We stayed inside for one whole day!! That drove us crazy! So we were excited for the next day to meet with our investigators.
I finally have a baptism Date!!! Her name is Teresa, and her parents were baptized months ago, and she was like if my dad believes in this church it has to be true. (Her dad is like the biggest secpeted in the world.) She had a baptism date before but she didn’t keep it because she didn’t believe she was ready to get baptized. But she believes she is ready now.
Then my whole entire zone got to do a service project for an English Investgator name Mary. She was found by the elders and she lives in the scariest place ever. Well, not during the day. You know those scary movies when they are driving on a road in the forest? She lives down that street. She has a HUGE plot of land and we cut down some of her trees and picked up a lot of trash. That was a lot of fun. I told the Elders that I passed Wood Chopping 101 and I can use an AX( they didn’t know graduating wood chopping 101 is just holding the ax). But they didn’t have an ax, they had a chain saw! So somehow I convinced them that I can use a chainsaw. And for some odd reason they let me use it!! So I’ll see if I can post of picture of me with the chainsaw.
Then we met with Josue Flores. He is ready to be baptized and we were going to set a date with him but his dad, Hno Flores wants to baptize his son. But the only problem is that he has Word of Wisdom issues and his wife left him and won’t tell us. So he is avoiding us, but we need to set a date. (Which would be in a month). But Hno Flores wont talk to us! So we are in a little situation.
Then guess what? I got a fever and we had to say in because it is a mission rule, that we love sharing stuff, but not our sickness. I don’t know what constitutes as a fever but it was about 99.6 and my companion made us stay in. blah. But on Sat. all of our appointments cancelled on us or wasn’t home. So my trainer told me welcome to real mission work. She told me that we have been really blessed with people who keep their appointments and people who want to hear the Gospel. So that was hard. I actually had to knock some doors!!! But nothing really came about because they weren’t home or had too much to drink to share a message with them.
In conclusion, this week was ok but it wasn’t the best. But I decided that, in Texas, I’ve seen more Virgin Mary than Jesus Christ. I knew Mary was important but I didn’t know she was THAT important.

Thank You:)
Hi everyone!!!
Junie, Casey, and Eric thank you for the birthday gifts! i love them!!! Anyways, besides that note, this week was kinda slow for some reason. I acctually had to knock doors this week. It might be the fact that my compaion was sick and i think she is still sick. The Mission President's wife called her and said she has most of the symptoms of Swine Flu!! Ah!! then again every appointment we have someone is sick in that house. So since the flu season is coming we are not allowed to shake hands, give hugs, or give kisses on the cheeks. So thats kinda of disrepectful for the Hispanic COmmunity so we are gonna have to deal with that. I dont want to get the swine flu. BLAH!!!
This week we had to drop a lot of people because 1. they dont come to church or 2. they arent reading and praying. We had to drop Miguel Garabail eventhough he promised that he would bet going to church like for the last 3 sundays, and never came.
We had to drop this lady name Esperanza who is from Honduras. Its pretty ironic, because last week we asked her the baptizemal questions and she answered them perfectly, but the last week she had no idea why Joseph Smith is so importante. Plus, her "husband" wont marry her. she knows that she needs to get married before she can get baptized.
On the plus side, we have a young man name Josue who is 15 and he is ready to be baptized. but his dad wants to baptize him but the dad has a drinking problem before he can baptize his son. So that is going to be a month before we see him getting baptized.
The reason why i think the work is kinda hard here is because we are working with Hispanic People and they dont have papers. so that means its extremely hard for them to get a job, and when they get a job they dont want to lose it so they never ask for sunday off. plus, they are here to work, nothing else. even some of the ward memebers dont have papers. ah! there are people from Mexico (a lot of people), Hondras, and El Salvador.
I hate Cake and food. The memebers here love the sister missionaires, people are already calling dates for next month to feed us. even when they dont sign up they still feed us. for the past two weeks my compaion and i have had like 2 dinners in one night. Plus, within two weeks we had 12 cakes because her birthday was the week before mine. i also relized that i could have no surivie in another country. because the ward had a "bring food from your country" night. and ive tasted some food from like Chile, Hondoras, Venezela, and another country and yah i cant eat that food. But the Mexican food, i love it! i mean i was ment to be here. because i love the people and the food.

New Beginnings

So, I’m glad that I just missed winter and apparently I just missed summer here in Texas besides the mosquitoes! But the other day we had a major rain storm and we had to return back to our apartment because we couldn’t even see 10 ft in front of us, but like an hour latter it was over, and we just went back to work. Well, I was kinda afraid for my life because my companion doesn’t know how to drive in the rain. Blah. But I know that the Lord will take care of us.
Well this week, again my companion and I have been so busy. Honestly we haven’t had time to knock on doors. We always plan to but we get so caught up on people teaching lessons. I can’t believe that I’ve been out in Texas for 4 weeks! Again, the people here are ready to be baptized but they don’t want to give up their lifestyle. Aka…getting married. Well, my companion and I just dropped a family who we could never get a hold of and then one morning they called us and asked us when we could come and teach them. And we did, that same day and the next day. They came to general conference, so I guess it shows that they are very interested in becoming members. The familia Flores. The dad is a RM and the children aren’t baptized. So he wanted his children to choice if they want to be members or not. Other than that, THE INVESTIGATORS NEED TO GET MARRIED!! That’s it. No more. I didn’t notice how much people love living together and is afraid to getting married. BLAH!!

Hi everyone,
This is what is happening this week in Texas. Besides getting eat alive my mosquitoes it’s been busy. We have about 20 investigators and less active members. The person we most visited is named Miguel Garabiadi. And he has a brother who is a strong member of the Spanish branch and there seems to be a problem between them. Miguel knows that the Book of Mormon is true and that Joseph Smith restored the church back on the earth. Usually, that’s what I’ve seen are people don’t understand that concept. The part from keep him from being baptized is not coming to church and he doesn’t want to change his lifestyle. Another investigator we have is her name is Rosibel, she understands that the Book of Mormon is true but she doesn’t believe that Joseph Smith was called as a prophet of God. Again, there is the Eslante Family. They are so ready to be baptized but the only problem is that she is still married to another man and the other man won’t give her a divorce. Brother and Sister Eslante are talking about there children becoming missionaries and guessing where they are going to serve. Then there is the Aguliar family who is a recent convert family who is preparing to go to the Temple in Nov to get sealed. Because in Nov is there year mark that they have been members. There is another person name Jose, who is “married” (living with) his girlfriend who is a member but he isn’t. Jose has a drinking problem that he needs to resolve and he is moving to Florida because in Florida he has a job waiting for him, and a house. So he is coming to church but probably won’t get baptized here but most likely in Florida.
Well, I finally went knocking on doors this week and talking to People who speak English is like super hard! The people will let you talk but they don’t want to listen, they are so strong in their faith that they aren’t willing to listen to what we have to say. But no one has like slammed doors on my face yet. The Elders have been telling me that I’ve been lucky so far. The Hispanic people are so nice and so into hearing anything about Jesus Christ that they are willing to listen or at least get our point across. You can see the people who want to learn and other people who are just being nice.
On the Brightside of things the people in the Spanish Branch think I’m Mexican! So the first time I met some of the branch members they would talk to me really fast and I didn’t know what they were saying. Then I explained that I am not a native Spanish speaker but I’m Native American. People thought I’m like Tongan, Soman, or Chinese. Only one person has asked me if I’m Native American, the only reason why she could get right is because she served her mission on the Navajo Reservation.
Yesterday, I came to the conclusion that Hispanic Parties are just like the Navajo parties. They are a bunch of people eating a ton of food. They like to grill out on the porch the kids are running wild, the get offended if you don’t finish your food. Instead of mutton they have carne asada. And instead of Frybread they have corn tortillas. It’s all about the meat and they take forever to start eating. The members told us 4pm and we didn’t start eating till like 515. Sound a little familiar?
Well, today we are going to the mall and I’m going to be some stuff that says Texas on it. So I’m excited!! Remember MY BIRTHDAY IS NEXT MONDAY!!!!!

HI EVERYONe. this is my 1st week in texas and it has been crazy. i gotten like 12 mosquito bites. i mean they hurt. i think it is just because im like fresh blood or something like that.
i got a new compaion here in name is Hna. Katie Barber. she goes to BYU and has like a ton of family memebers.
the people here are really nice. i havent gotten any werid foods yet. Oh yah we have a chance to get out of my area and went to arlington, TX. we got lost going but i saw 6 flags. the sisters and i said if we cant find the church building then we are going to 6flags. anyways, I got to see and shake hands with president Ugfdor!!!! him and his wife are amazing speakers!!!

Hi everyone,
Another week here at the MTC. i have two weeks left and i will be getting my flight plans sometime this week. so im like way excited to get out in the real world and talking to real people.
well, what is new here. we had Elder Richard Scotts came to the MTC and gave a devtional. i mean it was amazing. my biggest doubt that i have is learning the language. i mean the doctrine i can say in my sleep but the spanish part is my biggest chanllege. well, he said as long as we know the doctrine and we are worth to have the Holy Ghost we will be able to learn the language. i mean it is a promise from an apostel of God that gave the whole MTC that promise and i know it will come forth. i just need to be the best missionary that i can be. i need to stay obedient.
i love my calling as coordinating sister. its fun yelling at the elders when they forget to call each other by there title. and getting to know the sisters. i love the sisters in my zone. they are wonderful youngwoman excited to change the world one person at a time. each of my sisters has a speical place in my heart.
also the elders in my district, they are way more mature than they really are. i know that they are going to be great missionaries and to touch lives of many people.
so here is a story that i loved that elder scott told us.
he said:
there were two sister missionaires coming home for the night when they ran into 5 tall black men that had the intention to do bad things. there were two elders that were near by and one was tongan. and the tongan elder said to his compaion, run and call the police i can take care of them. so the elder ran to call the police and tongan elder only had an umbrella. when the police came the 5 black men said that they were never happier to see the police in there lives. i love that story.
well, there is an elder in my distict he is sick. im not sure what he has but it something serious bc he has to see the doctor like everyweek and he is consitsly tired. please pray for him to get well. his name is elder makay l. money.

HI EVERYONE!,
greetings from Provo MTC. life here is crazy. we are literal in class for about 90% of my day. the only real time we leave is for meals and going to the RC(referal center. if you order something from the TV i make calls to see if you get it).
the lanuguage is hard. im not going to lie. i mean i knew a lot before i left but now i am relizing that i dont know enough. like because i went to UNM i didnt know much gospel words. but im learning them.In my district (my classroom) i am the queen of spanish grammer. the hard part is taking my grammer language into speaking it. thats my hardest problem. but i heard from the MTC president not to worry about the language it will come. and that i should focus on the doctorine and i should be fine as long as i am obiedient.
anyways,
i love my district. they are all 19. sometimes they act so mature for there age, then they say or do something stupid, and they remind me that they are 19.
everyone in my district is so different but it makes out distict great. i mean one time i heard that all the other districts in my zone are crazy and have so many problems but we have no problems.
everyone in my district kinda hates me bc i have gotten the most pakages from my family and i love them for that.
anyways, other than that i am doing great! i love it here. its kinda going to be sad when i leave my district because im going to miss them so much. anyways, i need to finish my laundry!
